Senior Data Engineer Risk

Oliver James is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our client’s internal team. This is a critical hire: you will be stepping into a high-level position previously held by the current Lead. Your mission is to take over the technical “engine room,” allowing the Lead to focus on long-term strategy, while you lead the build of new projects and the optimisation of their high-volume data systems.

The Role: Engineering meets Architecture

This is a senior, hands-on role with a strategic twist. You will spend the majority of your time under the hood of the data engine, while dedicating a quarter of your time to designing how future solutions should look.

  • 75% Data Engineering & Optimisation: You will be the “owner” of the data engine. This involves core implementation, managing massive data volumes, and ensuring everything runs at peak performance.

  • 25% Solution Architecture: You will design blueprints for new project builds, ensuring that the technical framework is robust, scalable, and fit for purpose.

Technical Requirements

  • Oracle & PL/SQL Mastery: This is the core of the role. You must have deep expertise in Oracle Database Architecture and PL/SQL. We need someone who can fine-tune complex queries and optimize database performance at an expert level.

  • Database Engineering Background: You have a proven track record of handling large volumes of data and understanding the intricacies of database-centric implementations.

  • Architectural “Know-How”: While your title is Data Engineer, you must have the seniority and vision of an Architect to design new solutions from scratch.

  • English Fluency: Professional-level English is a must for collaborating with the internal team.

Nice to Have (Plus Points)

  • Risk Domain Expertise: A strong understanding of Credit Risk concepts or experience working within a Risk Data environment will give you a massive head start.

  • SAS Knowledge: Experience with the SAS Platform (DI, EG, or Analytical tools) is a significant advantage, as it is a key part of the current technical stack.

  • Broader Database Experience: Familiarity with SQL Server is a plus.

  • Cloud Awareness: While the focus is on the core stack, knowledge of Azure is always welcomed.
