Controller/Head, Statutory Financial Reporting - Life Insurance
A growing U.S.-based life (re)insurance company is seeking a Controller/Head of Statutory Financial Reporting. This is a high-impact, hands-on role within an entrepreneurial, results-driven organization focused on acquiring and managing in-force life insurance portfolios.
The position will lead statutory financial reporting and controllership functions across multiple U.S. domiciled insurance entities. This is an excellent opportunity for a technical and operationally focused accounting professional to help shape a dynamic and fast-evolving finance function.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the statutory close and filing process for multiple U.S. insurance entities, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance
Manage preparation and review of Blue Book reporting, related schedules (e.g., B and BA), and interactions with regulatory bodies
Oversee preparation of statutory financial statements, including coordination of annual audits and external reporting
Own general ledger and financial system processes
Partner with actuarial, investments, and operations to analyze financial results and prepare management reporting
Support reinsurance accounting and rating agency deliverables
Maintain strong internal control practices, including SOX compliance
Contribute to due diligence efforts and onboarding of acquired portfolios
Supervise, mentor, and develop a small team of finance professionals
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational rigor
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in life insurance financial reporting and accounting
Strong understanding of statutory accounting principles and regulatory reporting requirements for U.S. life insurers
Experience managing Blue Book reporting
CPA highly desired but not essential
Solid communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
Proven leadership, team management, and project execution capabilities
Ability to operate in a lean, dynamic, and entrepreneurial environment
High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
