Assistant Controller, VP – Finance
Location: New York City
Compensation: 160-190k base + Bonus
The Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this leadership position is responsible for strengthening the statutory accounting and reporting infrastructure. You will manage daily life and annuity reinsurance accounting operations while directly supporting the CFO on new business initiatives and complex transaction structuring.
Core Responsibilities

Reinsurance Accounting: Lead GAAP and Statutory (STAT) reporting for reinsurance customers.

Investment Oversight: Manage the accounting, treatment, and reporting of the company’s investment portfolio, including fixed income and other invested assets.

Financial Reporting: Prepare annual financial statements, including balance sheets, cash flow statements, and STAT-to-GAAP reconciliations.

Strategic Support: Lead forecasting and projections for new business deals and assist in the review of financial models.

Collaboration: Work closely with investment management teams on budgets and ad hoc requests while engaging with business leaders to drive best-practice procedures.
Key Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, with a preference for reinsurance or life and annuity backgrounds.

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance; a CPA or advanced degree is preferred.

Technical Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP and NAIC statutory accounting guidelines.

Investment Knowledge: Firm grasp of accounting rules for investments under U.S. GAAP and statutory regulations.

Systems: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and a working knowledge of general ledger transactions.

Skills: Strong analytical ability, highly organized in deadline-driven environments, and a proven track record of meeting monthly deliverables.
