Application Security Engineer – Product Owner

A Secure SDLC-focused team is seeking an Associate Technical Product Owner to help support and expand its Security Champions initiative. This opportunity is well suited for someone at the beginning of their career who has basic exposure to application security and wants to build experience in technical product ownership and program coordination.

As part of the team, you will manage specific areas of the Champions Program, assist with daily operational activities, and contribute to improving the adoption of secure development practices across engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Product & Program Coordination

  • Assist in managing product or program backlogs, including task tracking and prioritisation
  • Gather requirements from technical stakeholders and convert them into clear, actionable deliverable
  • Maintain program documentation, guides, FAQs, and supporting reference materials

Security Champions Program Support

  • Help onboard and coordinate Security Champions across engineering teams
  • Support the planning and execution of security training sessions, workshops, and awareness initiatives
  • Assist with communications and updates within the champion community
  • Contribute to integrating secure development practices into engineering workflows

Reporting, Metrics & Tools

  • Track and report program metrics such as engagement, participation, and training completion
  • Maintain accurate reporting data using Excel or dashboard tools such as Power BI
  • Work with internal tooling, ticketing systems, and established workflows to support security and engineering activities
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and operational improvements

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has foundational technical knowledge, strong organisational abilities, and a keen interest in growing within application security and security-focused programs.

Technical Understanding

  • Basic knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Familiarity with engineering processes such as pull requests, builds, and release cycles
  • Comfortable collaborating with engineering and security teams while proactively seeking clarification when needed

Application Security Fundamentals

  • Understanding of core application security concepts, including:
    • Common vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10)
    • Secure coding best practices
    • General awareness of outputs from security tools such as SAST, DAST, and dependency scanning

Communication & Collaboration

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills within technical or security-related environments
  • Ability to simplify and communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, organised, and execution-driven

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Exposure to secure development practices or security awareness initiatives
  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in application security or security-oriented product/program roles
