Recently, Oliver James was contacted by Insurance ERM to contribute to an article exploring the impact of IFRS 17 on hiring within the actuarial space. Below is a snippet from the piece, where we discuss big data and the role it is playing in our current projects:
“Big data was always tipped as an area where actuaries’ skills could be put to good use, but few have stepped into such roles, mainly because salaries for qualified actuaries are typically higher than in generic big data jobs.
Ani Pannell, managing consultant, UK actuarial contract, Oliver James Associates, says: “At the close of 2017, we placed our first data roles – it is certainly an emerging market. We are seeing our candidates become more interested in securing data experience as it is tipped as the next bubble in the market. A number of actuaries have taken time out to study data analytics to prepare for this.””
