Commercial Real Estate Loan Mortgage Originator
Position Overview
A growing institutional real estate lending platform is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Commercial Real Estate Loan Originator to support the expansion of its lending business. The role will focus on sourcing, structuring, and originating bridge, DSCR, fix-and-flip, and balance sheet commercial mortgage loans, with a primary emphasis on lower-middle-market transactions.
The successful candidate will possess strong commercial real estate relationships, broad asset class expertise, and a demonstrated track record of originating commercial mortgage loans. Experience with bridge lending, DSCR products, fix-and-flip financing, and securitized lending structures is highly desirable. This individual will play a key role in expanding the platform’s lending footprint while maintaining disciplined underwriting standards and strong borrower relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate commercial real estate loans across bridge, fix-and-flip, DSCR, and permanent balance sheet lending programs.
- Source financing opportunities through direct borrower relationships, mortgage brokers, real estate investors, banks, developers, and other referral channels.
- Develop and maintain relationships with professional fix-and-flip operators, real estate sponsors, investor groups, and residential investment property owners.
- Structure financing solutions tailored to borrower needs and institutional investment objectives.
- Originate loans across a broad range of asset classes, including multifamily, office, retail, industrial, hospitality, self-storage, mixed-use, single-family rental portfolios, residential investment properties, and specialty asset types.
- Evaluate transactions based on sponsorship quality, property cash flow, debt service coverage, collateral characteristics, market fundamentals, renovation plans, and exit strategy.
- Assess and structure short-term bridge and renovation financing for acquisition, repositioning, and value-add opportunities.
- Work closely with underwriting, legal, servicing, and asset management teams throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Maintain an active origination pipeline and provide regular reporting on production, market activity, and borrower relationships.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, networking events, and market-facing meetings.
- Ensure all originations adhere to internal credit standards, lending policies, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of commercial and/or investor real estate lending origination experience. Preference for more senior experience.
- Demonstrated experience originating bridge loans, fix-and-flip loans, DSCR loans, and/or balance sheet commercial real estate loans.
- Proven ability to source and close financing transactions for investment real estate sponsors and operators.
- Strong understanding of residential investment lending, renovation financing, and cash-flow-based underwriting.
- Experience with CMBS origination or securitized lending structures preferred.
- Established network of borrower, broker, and intermediary relationships.
- Strong financial analysis, loan structuring, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication, business development, and relationship management capabilities.
- Self-starter with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Experience within a lending platform focused on bridge lending, residential investment property lending, DSCR products, fix-and-flip financing, or commercial mortgage origination.
- Strong relationships within the fix-and-flip investor community, mortgage broker channel, and commercial real estate market.
- Knowledge of transitional, value-add, renovation, and bridge lending strategies.
- Familiarity with securitized lending structures, capital markets, and secondary market loan executions.
- Broad market knowledge across multiple geographies and property sectors.
