Director, Actuary – Programs Pricing

Location: Chicago, IL | New York, NY | Jersey City, NJ | St. Paul, MN | Hartford, CT
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days per week in office
Compensation: $130,000-$180,000 base + bonus

A leading global specialty P&C insurer is seeking a Director, Actuary – Programs Pricing to join its growing US Insurance Actuarial team.

This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced actuary to take ownership of pricing strategy across a portfolio of specialty Programs, working closely with Underwriting, Program Managers, Analytics and senior leadership.

The Role

As the lead actuary for approximately 5-6 specialty Programs, you will provide actuarial and commercial insight across the portfolio and play a key role in strategic business decisions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Own pricing and profitability analysis across a portfolio of specialty Programs.
  • Monitor rate adequacy, rate changes, underwriting mix and segmentation.
  • Advise the business on where to grow, maintain, reprice or pull back based on portfolio performance.
  • Evaluate new specialty Programs and external partnerships from an actuarial and commercial perspective.
  • Develop pricing studies, segmentation analyses and monitoring tools.
  • Improve pricing methodologies and analytical processes using tools such as Python, SQL and VBA.
  • Partner closely with Underwriting, Program Managers and Predictive Modeling teams.
  • Present actuarial findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Translate complex actuarial analysis into clear, actionable commercial recommendations.

What They’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of P&C actuarial experience.
  • ACAS or FCAS.
  • Strong pricing and ratemaking experience.
  • Experience within Commercial or Specialty P&C preferred.
  • Strong analytical and technical capabilities, ideally including Python, SQL and/or VBA.
  • Experience with profitability analysis, segmentation and portfolio monitoring.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to influence underwriting and business decisions.
