Data Science Pricing Lead – Motor – France, Spain, Italy

Pricing Data Science Manager

Location: Spain, Italy or France
Experience: 5-7 years
Compensation: 80k – 100k basic + 35% bonus

The opportunity

We are partnering with an innovative, international insurance business to appoint a Pricing Data Science Manager in a newly created role.

This is an opportunity for a technically strong Data Scientist with experience in insurance pricing to take ownership of advanced analytics initiatives, lead a growing team and help shape the future of pricing across multiple markets.

The successful candidate will combine hands-on technical expertise with team leadership and commercial thinking. Working closely with local Pricing teams, business stakeholders and technology specialists, you will turn complex data into practical solutions that improve pricing accuracy, customer segmentation and profitable growth.

There is significant flexibility to challenge existing approaches, experiment with new ideas and develop innovative solutions in a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

Data Science & Advanced Analytics

  • Develop, enhance and deploy advanced statistical and machine learning models to support pricing optimisation, risk assessment, claims forecasting and customer lifetime value.
  • Improve existing models to deliver more sophisticated customer segmentation and support profitable growth.
  • Optimise renewal pricing strategies, balancing profitability, market competitiveness and customer outcomes.
  • Design and evaluate predictive models, optimisation algorithms and statistical experiments, including A/B and multivariate testing.
  • Translate complex business challenges into practical Data Science solutions, measuring their impact on pricing and business performance.

Insurance Pricing & Business Partnership

  • Work closely with local Pricing teams to understand market-specific challenges and identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Challenge existing pricing methodologies and assumptions, using data-driven insights to influence business decisions.
  • Support the development of pricing strategies, with a particular focus on motor insurance.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead a team of approximately 3-4 Data Scientists, with potential for future growth.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance, support professional development and foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Collaborate with engineering and MLOps teams to integrate models into production environments.
  • Support model deployment, performance monitoring, data and concept drift detection, CI/CD processes and automated retraining.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices across the Data Science and Pricing functions.

What we are looking for

  • Approximately 5-7 years of experience in Data Science, advanced analytics or predictive modelling, ideally within insurance.
  • Demonstrable experience in an insurance Pricing environment, with a strong understanding of how pricing decisions affect profitability and business performance.
  • Strong hands-on Python skills, including libraries such as Pandas and Scikit-learn; experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow is advantageous.
  • Advanced SQL skills and a strong grounding in applied statistics, predictive modelling and optimisation techniques.
  • Experience with pricing analytics tools such as Radar, Emblem, Akur8 or Earnix.
  • Experience developing and deploying models into production, ideally within cloud environments such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • The ability to balance technical depth with commercial awareness and stakeholder engagement.
  • Previous experience mentoring or leading Data Scientists, or the motivation and capability to step into a formal leadership role.

Experience in motor insurance, including rating structures, vehicle scoring, claims cost modelling or demand modelling, would be a strong advantage.

We are open to candidates from different backgrounds. A Data Scientist with insurance pricing experience could be an excellent fit, as could a Pricing Actuary with particularly strong Data Science and programming capabilities.

Why consider this opportunity?

  • Shape a new function: Help define the direction of a newly created role and influence how Data Science is applied to insurance pricing.
  • Stay hands-on: Combine technical problem-solving and model development with leadership responsibilities.
  • Make a commercial impact: Work directly with Pricing teams to turn advanced analytics into measurable business outcomes.
  • Lead and develop a team: Manage a small team with the potential to grow as the function evolves.
  • Work in a flexible environment: Bring new ideas, challenge established approaches and experiment with innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate internationally: Partner with stakeholders across several European markets.

Interview process

The process is expected to involve three interview stages, including discussions with senior stakeholders and technical/panel interviews covering Pricing and Data Science. Interviews can be conducted remotely, so travel for face-to-face meetings should not be necessary.

If you are a technically minded Data Scientist who understands insurance pricing and wants to combine hands-on modelling with leadership and the freedom to innovate, we would be keen to hear from you.
