Family Office Accountant – VP (LA, Hybrid)

A Single Family Office, based in LA, is looking for an experienced accountant to run the accounting, finance, tax and real estate for the firm. This role will require “rolling the sleeves” as well as strategy focused. It will be 4 days a week in office.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, a high degree of discretion, and the ability to manage a varied workload in a lean, entrepreneurial environment

Responsibilities:

  • Run the monthly close and overall financial reporting process.
  • Prepare financial reports and reporting packages on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Work with outside CPAs on tax preparation and filings for various business entities, including partnerships and LLCs.
  • Work closely with property managers on rent collection, operating expenses, leases, and daily property needs.
  • Coordinate with real estate brokers regarding leasing, vacancies, and other property transactions.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for the family office and related entities.
  • Handle bills, vendor payments, and accounts payable.
  • Complete ongoing bank and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Help improve financial processes and workflows, including finding ways to use AI to increase efficiency.
  • Assist with special projects, financial analysis, and other tasks as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling family and financial matters.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Accounting or finance experience required, with family office, private equity, or public accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA certification or currently working toward a CPA is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software; familiarity with accounts payable systems is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting practices.
  • Experience with real estate accounting or property-level financial management is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, stay organized, and manage multiple priorities in a small-team environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with outside advisors and vendors.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and discretion.
