Lead Software Engineer

We’re partnering with a leading Life Insurance organization undertaking a major Group Financial System (GFS) modernization effort and are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to help shape the future of its Payment Domain platform.

This is more than a traditional backend engineering role. You’ll lead the end-to-end development of a new Payment Domain layer, defining how systems, workflows, technology, and Agentic AI come together to modernize inbound and outbound payment functionality across Group Insurance.

Working closely with analysts, architects, engineers, and a FinTech payment processing vendor, you’ll help redesign complex payment processes from the ground up, creating reliable, scalable, and loosely coupled solutions that improve system performance today while supporting future payment capabilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the end-to-end development, testing, and integration of modern applications and systems that enhance Group Insurance line of business growth initiatives.
  • Designing and building a new Payment Domain layer loosely coupled with internal systems and SaaS services of a FinTech payment processing vendor.
  • Facilitating brainstorming sessions to generate innovative solutions, developing high-performance applications, APIs, and data solutions that drive technological advancement.
  • Applying modern design patterns and Agentic AI to build new features that deliver core business capabilities.
  • Expanding payment capabilities by offering new payment options to address business capability gaps.
  • Building unit testing frameworks such as JUnit or Spock, and contributing to the development, testing, maintenance, and integration of applications and systems.
  • Partnering closely with analysts, architects, engineers, and external vendors to ensure solutions are reliable, scalable, and aligned to business goals.

We’re looking for someone with 5+ years of backend development experience, including proficiency in Java with Spring Boot and Groovy, RESTful API design, and event-driven architecture (Kafka or RabbitMQ). Strong experience with AWS cloud services, containerized microservices, and enterprise integration using MuleSoft or similar technologies is important. Experience with MongoDB or enterprise databases, familiarity with SAFe and Agile delivery, and comfort navigating ambiguity are highly desirable.

This is a fully remote, contract 2 hire opportunity offering the chance to play a key role in modernizing a major Life Insurance organization’s payment platform.

If you’re passionate about solving complex problems, building loosely coupled modern systems, and leveraging Agentic AI to deliver the next generation of payment capabilities, we’d love to hear from you.
