Litigation Claims Counsel – Commercial General Liability
Location: Westchester, New York (2 days per week in office only)
An established insurance legal team is seeking an experienced Litigation Claims Counsel to join its growing in-house legal practice in New York. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced attorney to manage complex commercial litigation matters, take ownership of a varied caseload and play a key role in driving cases through to trial and resolution. Cases will be focused on Commercial General Liability, Construction and New York Labor Law claims. We can consider Attorneys who are currently working in-house at an insurer or at an insurance defense law firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex insurance defense matters from inception through trial and resolution.
- Handle complex litigation for commercial general liability, construction and NYLL cases
- Develop litigation strategies and oversee all aspects of case preparation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions and expert witnesses.
- Act as first-chair trial attorney in state and federal courts.
- Advise on settlement strategy, exposure and litigation risk.
- Manage relationships with claims professionals and other key stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to more junior attorneys.
Experience & Requirements
- JD and admission to the New York State Bar.
- 10+ years of insurance defense or relevant litigation experience.
- Strong knowledge of Commercial General Liability, Construction and New York Labor Law
- Experience handling contractual indemnification disputes.
- Proven first-chair trial experience.
- Strong deposition, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage a complex caseload and drive matters to successful resolution.
This role must be based from their Westchester NY office 2 days per week, with 3 days fully remote. They are offering an excellent base salary up to $225,000 + 30% annual bonus potential. This is a fantastic in-house legal opportunity with a market leading insurance organisation.
