Senior Director – Fund Accounting

An alternative investment firm is seeking an experienced fund accounting professional to lead financial operations and reporting activities across a diverse portfolio of investment vehicles. This individual will oversee fund accounting, financial reporting, valuation support, investor reporting, and operational controls while partnering closely with investment, operations, and client-facing teams.

**This is a hybrid role

Role Function:

  • Lead accounting and reporting functions for investment funds, partnerships, and managed accounts.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to accounting team members while fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Oversee close processes, including reconciliations, expense accruals, fee calculations, and financial data validation.
  • Review and analyze portfolio activity, investment transactions, and cash movements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Monitor financial controls, documentation practices, and reporting procedures to support internal governance requirements.
  • Evaluate complex investment structures, financing arrangements, allocations, and distribution calculations.
  • Review performance reporting and investment-level analytics for accuracy and consistency.
  • Coordinate with auditors, administrators, and other external service providers throughout reporting cycles.

Background/Experience:

  • Fund accounting & public accounting (tax, audit, assurance) experience within asset management
  • Experience with complex investment structures, capital activity, allocations, and fund operations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply accounting guidance to unique investment scenarios.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
  • Prior experience managing teams or overseeing accounting professionals is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred.
