Senior Legal Counsel based in Europe
Astral Legal have partnered with a Global Insurance company as they are expanding their Legal team in Europe.
Duties of a Senior Legal Counsel
You will be a trusted senior adviser to stakeholders across the European Region, providing high-quality legal advice to the business. This is a generalist commercial counsel role, with a particular emphasis on insurance distribution, policy wordings and commercial contracts.
- Provide clear, commercial and risk-based legal advice on day-to-day matters
- Legal lead on complex, cross-functional matters, coordinating SME input and managing external counsel where required.
- Partner with the wider Legal team, Governance/Company Secretarial and other stakeholders
- Review and negotiate policy wordings and related documentation.
- Support product development and ensure alignment with legal, regulatory and underwriting requirements.
- Provide legal support in relation to multinational insurance programmes.
Commercial, distribution and business contracting
- Advise on distribution and delegated authority arrangements, including TOBAs and related terms.
- Advise on a broad range of operational and business services contracts and support strategic partnerships and new initiatives, ensuring proportionate risk allocation and governance.
- Provide legal input on matters with insurance market/regulatory dimensions (e.g. distribution arrangements, delegated authority, operational resilience and outsourcing expectations)
Other associated legal duties
What the ideal candidate will have:
- Qualified lawyer with appropriate professional qualifications · Strong experience in the insurance sector across multiple lines of business; expert knowledge of insurance law and regulations in the EU.
- Fluent in English and German or Dutch, both spoken and written; fluency in another language of the Region is a plus.
- Strong analytical and drafting skills.
- Proactive, collaborative approach.
