Team Lead Financial Control

Our client, an international non-profit organisation based in Amsterdam, is looking for a hands-on Finance Lead to take ownership of the organisation’s financial accounting and control, managing a small team across AP and AR. As Team Lead Financial Control, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, strong controls, efficient finance operations and compliance with statutory, tax and audit requirements.
You will work closely with the CEO and leadership team, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and providing clear financial insight for decision-making. A key part of the role is to further develop and embed the recently implemented accounting system: you will identify improvement opportunities, implement best-practice finance processes, and drive greater efficiency, automation and control throughout the finance function.
You will also be responsible for the following:
- owning the monthly, quarterly and annual closing process, and the financial reporting for the CEO and leadership team
- maintaining internal controls, finance policies and documentation
- ensuring compliance with accounting, statutory and tax requirements
- leading audit preparation and managing auditors and external advisors
- overseeing AP, AR, invoicing, collections, supplier payments and cash flow
- coordinating budgeting, forecasting and financial risk/opportunity tracking
- further developing the new accounting system and its Salesforce-connected tools within the finance processes
Your profile
You are a strong, hands-on finance professional who values structure but is also not afraid to improve on it. You combine numerical precision with the ability to lead a small team while staying operationally involved yourself.
- a fully qualified accountant (RA, AA, ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent)
- a minimum of 7 years’ experience in financial accounting, control or finance management
- strong experience with month-end/year-end close, reporting, audits, controls and governance
- the ability to lead a small team while remaining hands-on and operational
- strong analytical, reporting and communication skills
- fluency in Dutch and English; international, membership association or NGO experience is a plus
You feel comfortable in a role where you both lead and stay close to the numbers, and you’re not afraid to critically question whether the current foundation is fit for purpose.
