E&S Underwriter – Specialty Lines
Location: Orlando, FL – Hybrid
Salary – Flexible depending on experience
Are you an experienced E&S Underwriter looking for the opportunity to build something from the ground up. I’m partnered with an ambitious, fast-growing specialty insurance business that’s investing heavily in the expansion of its wholesale E&S platform. Backed by an established retail network, a strong panel of carrier partners, and an existing flow of submissions.
The Opportunity
As one of the first hires into their wholesale underwriting team, you’ll have the autonomy to build and grow your own specialty portfolio while working closely with senior leadership. This is a highly visible role with a genuine path into a leadership position as the team expands.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Underwriting and binding E&S business within delegated authority.
- Managing relationships with carrier partners and retail/wholesale brokers.
- Developing and growing a profitable book of business.
- Assessing complex and hard-to-place risks across your specialist area.
- Helping establish underwriting processes and best practices as the platform continues to grow.
Areas of Expertise
They are interested in underwriters with experience in one or more of the following:
- Coastal & CAT Property
- Construction
- Transportation & Trucking
- Hospitality
- Other Specialty E&S Lines
What They’re Looking For
- 5+ years of E&S or Surplus Lines underwriting experience.
- Experience working with binding authority and/or the open E&S market.
- Strong technical underwriting skills with a proven ability to assess complex risks.
- Established relationships with E&S carriers, retail agents, and wholesale brokers.
- Active Property & Casualty licence (or the ability to obtain one quickly).
- A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and the desire to help build a growing business.
