AVP, Product & Regulatory Counsel
Our client, a leading specialty insurance carrier, is seeking an experienced insurance attorney to support its Professional Liability business. This is a highly business-facing role partnering closely with underwriting, regulatory, product, actuarial, legal, and senior leadership to provide practical legal and regulatory guidance across a specialized insurance portfolio.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with the business, has deep insurance regulatory and product experience, and is comfortable operating in a newly created role with the opportunity to help shape and build out the function over time.
Role & Responsibilities
- Advise the Professional Liability underwriting business on product development and regulatory matters.
- Support the development, drafting, and launch of insurance products and policy forms.
- Manage rate, form, and SERFF filings, particularly across New York and other states.
- Partner with underwriting, actuarial, legal, and senior leadership on product and regulatory initiatives.
- Liaise with state insurance regulators and provide practical regulatory guidance to the business.
- Help build and develop the product and regulatory function, with potential management responsibility over time.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school preferred.
- Active bar membership in good standing.
- 8-10+ years of insurance industry experience, ideally within an underwriting, regulatory, filing, or product function.
- Significant Professional Liability / Medical Malpractice insurance experience.
- Direct experience with New York Department of Financial Services regulatory matters.
- Strong experience with rate, form, and SERFF filings.
- Experience drafting and reviewing insurance policy forms and products.
- Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical business guidance.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $180-200k
- Bonus: 15%
- Full benefits package
