We’re looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our engineering team and play a key role in designing, building and evolving high-quality backend services and APIs.
You’ll be working primarily with Java and Spring Boot, building robust, scalable and secure REST APIs that support our core products and services. You’ll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, contribute to architecture and help raise engineering standards across the team.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, writing clean and maintainable code, and working collaboratively with other engineers, product managers and stakeholders.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot
- Build and maintain high-quality RESTful APIs
- Develop clean, testable and maintainable production code
- Contribute to technical architecture and system design decisions
- Work with databases, data modelling and persistence technologies
- Design systems with scalability, reliability, performance and security in mind
- Write automated unit, integration and API tests
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues
- Participate in code reviews and help maintain high engineering standards
- Work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, DevOps and other stakeholders
- Mentor and support more junior engineers
- Contribute to improving development practices, tooling and processes
- Take ownership of projects and technical solutions from design through to production
Essential
- Strong commercial experience with Java
- Extensive experience with Spring / Spring Boot
- Strong understanding of REST API design and development
- Experience building and supporting production-grade backend services
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design and software engineering principles
- Experience working with relational databases and SQL
- Solid understanding of automated testing and CI/CD
