Infrastructure & Cloud Operations Engineer – CONTRACT

  • 6-month Contract
  • Hybrid in Dublin Centre
  • Day rate

Overview:

The role covers Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, networking, storage, virtualisation, servers and core compute. You will work closely with infrastructure, cloud, security, service desk and application teams, as well as external technology partners, to deliver secure, stable and scalable services.

The position will also contribute to cloud adoption, infrastructure modernisation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure, Cloud & Modern Workplace

  • Manage and support on-premises and cloud infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualisation and networking.
  • Monitor performance, capacity and availability and improve reliability and resilience.
  • Perform patching, upgrades and configuration changes in line with change processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and provide escalation support to Tier 1/2 teams.
  • Diagnose hardware issues and coordinate repairs or replacement.
  • Administer and optimise Azure infrastructure and platform services.
  • Manage Azure VMs, storage, networking, security and identity services.
  • Support cloud security using Microsoft Defender, Conditional Access and Zero Trust principles.
  • Assist with cloud migrations, modernisation and Azure adoption.
  • Support Azure Landing Zones, subscriptions and RBAC.
  • Support and administer Microsoft 365 services including Teams, SharePoint, Exchange Online and OneDrive.
  • Manage Entra ID, MFA, Conditional Access and device compliance.
  • Monitor M365 service health and resolve Tier 2 issues.
  • Support endpoint management and modern workplace initiatives using Microsoft Intune.

Service Management, Security & Compliance

  • Resolve incidents within agreed SLAs and provide clear communication and updates.
  • Follow ITIL-based incident, problem and change management processes.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and service improvement activities.
  • Maintain infrastructure security controls in partnership with security teams.
  • Remediate vulnerabilities and manage patching.
  • Support Zero Trust initiatives and organisational/regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations and other technical projects.
  • Contribute to cloud adoption and infrastructure modernisation.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, optimisation and simplification.
  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks and support procedures.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, IT or a related discipline, with approximately 5+ years’ experience in infrastructure engineering or technical operations.
  • Strong Microsoft infrastructure and cloud experience.
  • Relevant certifications are desirable, including:
    • Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert
    • Azure AZ-104 or AZ-800
    • Cisco, CompTIA or equivalent
    • ITIL Foundation
    • CISSP or equivalent security certification is advantageous.
  • Experience with monitoring, analytics or infrastructure management tools.

Technical Skills

  • Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP.
  • Microsoft 365, including Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online, Intune and Entra ID.
  • VMware or equivalent virtualisation technologies.
  • Storage and backup technologies.
  • Networking fundamentals including LAN/WAN, firewalls, routing and switching.
  • ITIL-based service management and troubleshooting.

Desirable

  • PowerShell or other scripting/automation experience.
  • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
  • CI/CD and GitHub Enterprise.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
