Junior GIS Mapping Operator

Junior Mapping Operator – Energy Infrastructure | Brussels

We’re hiring a Junior Mapping Operator for a leading European energy infrastructure company. This is a 2-year contract based at their Brussels headquarters with 2 days/week home office.

What you’ll do

You’ll manage the as-built geographic data for one of Europe’s largest pipeline networks – updating maps when new pipelines are laid or existing ones are modified, maintaining topography and ground-level records, and verifying the XYZ positioning of underground infrastructure. You’ll prepare field measurement dossiers, interpret survey results, and keep the cartographic record accurate and current.

The work is structured and process-driven. You’ll be fully trained on-site – what matters is your precision, your willingness to learn, and your interest in geographic or spatial data.

What makes it worth it

The team’s scope is expanding. New energy carriers – hydrogen, biomethane, CO₂ – mean new infrastructure to map, new data standards to define, and growing demand for GIS expertise across the organisation. You start with the fundamentals and grow into more complex, project-driven work as the energy transition accelerates around you.

You

A bachelor’s or master’s in geography, geomatics, surveying, cartography, environmental science, urban planning, or a related field. No prior professional GIS experience required – knowledge of GIS tools, field measurement techniques, relational databases, or GTechnology is a plus, not a prerequisite.

You speak French or Dutch as a mother tongue with a good working knowledge of the other language. You’re detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working autonomously in a team environment.

Process

1 interview + 1 proof of concept. That’s it.
