Role Overview
We are looking for a Principal Engineer – OpenShift / OpenShift Virtualization with strong experience in designing, implementing, managing, and supporting enterprise OpenShift platforms.
The role requires deep technical expertise in OpenShift and OpenShift Virtualization, along with strong experience across platform engineering, monitoring, security, storage, networking, and highly available systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the installation, management, configuration, and upgrade of OpenShift clusters.
- Design and support highly scalable and highly available OpenShift/Kubernetes environments.
- Design, implement, and support OpenShift Virtualization environments.
- Support OpenShift deployments across bare-metal and VMware environments.
- Set up and manage monitoring, logging, and backups for OpenShift/Kubernetes platforms.
- Implement and maintain appropriate security, storage, networking, and RBAC configurations.
- Support and manage storage solutions, with NetApp and IBM experience preferred.
- Contribute to CI/CD and DevOps practices using tools such as ArgoCD and GitLab.
- Implement and manage monitoring using Prometheus, Thanos, and Grafana.
- Troubleshoot complex OpenShift/Kubernetes platform issues and provide effective technical solutions.
- Own and execute Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and ensure agreed post-mortem actions are completed.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance across infrastructure and platform engineering activities.
- Work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements and communicate technical solutions.
- Present technical designs, solutions, issues, and recommendations clearly to relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the OpenShift platform and associated operational processes.
- Manage and prioritize work across multiple projects and competing demands.
Key Requirements
- Extensive experience in the installation, administration, and upgrading of OpenShift clusters.
- Experience with or familiarity with OpenShift deployments on bare metal and VMware.
- Strong experience designing and architecting highly scalable and highly available systems.
- Practical experience with OpenShift Virtualization.
- Experience implementing and managing monitoring, logging, and backup solutions for OpenShift/Kubernetes platforms.
- Strong knowledge of OpenShift/Kubernetes security, storage, networking, and RBAC.
- Experience with NetApp and/or IBM storage is desirable.
- Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps tooling, particularly ArgoCD and GitLab.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring technologies such as Prometheus, Thanos, and Grafana.
- Proven experience taking ownership of RCA and post-mortem activities, including follow-up actions.
- Good understanding of and exposure to infrastructure and platform engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively manage delivery across multiple projects and competing priorities.
