Junior Counsel – Product, Coverage, Contracts & Commercial – P&C Insurance [Hybrid]
We are representing a top Property & Casualty insurer and reinsurer seeking a junior-level Product & Coverage Counsel to support the legal team. This role reports directly to the Head of Product and supports day-to-day legal services work across insurance products, coverage, and commercial matters.
This position is well suited for a junior attorney (law firm or carrier background) with foundational P&C insurance experience, particularly in insurance defense, coverage, or claims-related work, who is looking to transition into or further develop within an in-house legal environment.
Role & Responsibilities:
Insurance Coverage & Claims Advisory
- Reviewing and analyzing P&C insurance policies, coverage positions, and claims-related issues
- Supporting coverage determinations and advising on policy interpretation
- Assisting with insurance defense and claims-related legal matters
Commercial Contracts / Legal Services Work
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements (vendor, service, and operational contracts)
- Supporting internal stakeholders on day-to-day legal requests across the business
- Providing practical, business-oriented legal guidance on contract risk
Product & Policy Support
- Assisting with insurance product-related legal work (non-M&A / non-transactional)
- Reviewing policy language and endorsements for compliance and clarity
- Partnering with internal teams on product development and updates
Regulatory & Insurance Compliance Exposure
- Supporting insurance regulatory research and compliance efforts
- Assisting with licensing considerations (producers, adjusters, MGAs, TPAs)
- Monitoring regulatory requirements impacting products and operations
General Legal Team Support
- Acting as a key support to the General Counsel and broader legal function
- Handling a variety of ad hoc legal matters across a lean legal team
- Collaborating cross-functionally with claims, underwriting, and operations
Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable):
- MUST HAVE Juris Doctor & Bar Admission (USA)
- MUST HAVE 2-5 years of experience at a law firm and/or insurance carrier
- MUST HAVE direct exposure to P&C insurance (coverage, claims, and/or insurance defense)
- Strong familiarity with insurance policies and how they are structured and interpreted
Preferred Background:
- Experience in insurance defense or coverage litigation
- Exposure to in-house legal environments or secondments
- Familiarity with insurance regulatory frameworks and licensing
