Senior Director, Life & Health Reinsurance Contracts – North America

Overview

A leading global reinsurance organization is seeking a senior leader to oversee the Contracts function for its North American Life & Health reinsurance business. This role is responsible for contract governance, drafting standards, negotiation consistency, and contractual risk management across a complex portfolio of traditional reinsurance agreements.

Partnering closely with underwriting, legal, pricing, claims, portfolio management, and risk teams, you will ensure contracts accurately reflect commercial intent while supporting disciplined risk management and long-term portfolio performance. You will also lead modernization initiatives, including workflow optimization and the adoption of AI-enabled contracting tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the North American Contracts function across the U.S. and Canada.
• Oversee contract drafting, negotiation support, governance, and deviation management.
• Advise business stakeholders on contractual risk, wording, and deal structures.
• Review and interpret existing agreements and support contract restructuring where needed.
• Build and develop a high-performing team of Contracts Specialists.
• Drive consistent contracting standards and operational excellence.
• Champion digital transformation, including AI-enabled drafting and workflow improvements.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in Life & Health insurance or reinsurance contracting
• Law degree
• Significant experience drafting and negotiating complex reinsurance agreements.
• Strong commercial judgment and ability to balance legal, business, and risk considerations.
