Senior Tax Consultant

Senior Insurance Tax Advisory | Remote (U.S.)

Life Insurance & Reinsurance | $115,500-$156,000 Base + 15% Target Bonus | Permanent

Understand the tax implications of reinsurance transactions – and help shape the decisions behind them.

I’m partnering with an established national life insurance organization expanding its Corporate Tax function. We’re seeking an experienced tax professional for a role spanning reinsurance transaction advisory, corporate tax planning, and strategic business initiatives.

This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional tax compliance and reporting, working directly with Finance, Treasury, Legal, Actuarial and business leadership to evaluate complex transactions and influence how they’re structured.

The position is fully remote for U.S.-based professionals outside the company’s local office commuting radius, with occasional travel to headquarters in Minnesota.

The scope

  • Reinsurance advisory: Evaluate the tax implications of internal and external reinsurance transactions, including offshore structures and affiliated entities.

  • Corporate tax planning: Research complex insurance tax matters, develop planning strategies, and advise on federal, state and premium tax considerations.

  • Transaction support: Contribute to M&A, divestitures and other strategic corporate initiatives, including tax due diligence and structuring.

  • Technical research: Interpret tax regulations, prepare technical memoranda, and translate complex findings into practical recommendations.

  • Business partnership: Work across Finance, Treasury, Legal, Actuarial and other functions to ensure tax considerations inform strategic decisions.

  • Reporting and compliance: Support quarterly tax provisions, annual filings and related corporate tax responsibilities.

The background

We’re particularly interested in professionals with:

  • 5+ years of relevant corporate tax experience, ideally within life insurance, annuities or reinsurance.

  • Strong technical tax research, planning and analytical capabilities.

  • Experience evaluating complex tax issues and communicating recommendations to business stakeholders.

  • Exposure to reinsurance taxation, insurance transactions or related corporate tax advisory work.

  • Experience within an insurance organization or an accounting/advisory firm serving insurance clients.

Direct life insurance tax experience is highly valued. Candidates with relevant P&C insurance tax backgrounds will also be considered.

Reinsurance transaction experience is particularly attractive, although strong life insurance tax professionals without extensive direct reinsurance exposure are encouraged to apply.

CPA, JD or advanced tax credentials are preferred, not required.

Compensation & flexibility

  • Base salary: $115,500-$156,000, depending on experience.

  • Annual incentive: 15% target bonus.

  • Location: Remote across the United States, with occasional travel to Minnesota. Candidates living within 90 minutes of the St. Paul office follow a three-day hybrid schedule.

  • Working hours: Core collaboration hours of 9 AM – 3 PM Central, with additional scheduling flexibility.

  • Additional support: Sign-on and relocation assistance may be available depending on individual circumstances.
