Job Opportunity: Senior Mainframe Operations & Service Integration Engineer
Contract to hire | Fully Remote
Overview:
This is a critical operational role within a large enterprise environment supporting a complex mainframe estate undergoing ongoing transformation.
The position sits between internal application teams and a managed service provider (Wipro), acting as the primary point of coordination for incident resolution, operational support, and service integration across the mainframe environment.
This is a “control tower” role responsible for maintaining stability, improving coordination, and ensuring effective resolution of live production issues across multiple technical teams and vendors.
Role Purpose:
- The Senior Mainframe Operations & Service Integration Engineer will own day-to-day operational stability across the mainframe estate, ensuring incidents and issues are effectively triaged, coordinated, and resolved across internal and external teams.
- The focus is on strengthening incident management, reducing unnecessary escalations, and improving first-line resolution capability within internal support teams.
- This role requires strong collaboration across application support, infrastructure, and MSP environments, with a focus on clear communication and service accountability.
- Strong experience in mainframe operations or production support (not development-focused)
- Hands-on experience supporting COBOL-based applications in a production environment
- Experience working in complex, multi-vendor or MSP environments (Wipro is prefferd)
- Strong troubleshooting skills (log analysis, batch processing, incident diagnosis)
- Familiarity with systems such as CICS and DB2
- Ability to coordinate across infrastructure, application, and third-party support teams
- Strong communication and incident management skills in live production environments
- Act as the primary interface between application teams and the MSP (Wipro)
- Lead day-to-day mainframe operations support and incident coordination
- Manage infrastructure changes, upgrades, and release activities
- Own incident triage, troubleshooting, and escalation management across mainframe systems
- Work with application teams to diagnose and resolve issues before MSP escalation
- Coordinate support teams to ensure timely resolution of operational issues
- Support ESP Job Scheduler and batch processing environments
- Monitor service stability and identify recurring operational issues
A key objective is to improve operational ownership across the environment and reduce reliance on external escalation paths.
Why This Role Stands Out:
- This is a high-ownership operational role at the center of a complex enterprise mainframe ecosystem.
- It offers significant visibility across internal teams and external managed service providers, with direct responsibility for how production incidents are managed, escalated, and resolved.
- It is well suited to someone who thrives in fast-paced operational environments and enjoys solving complex live service issues across multiple teams.
