Fund Controller – CLOs

Oliver James have recently partnered with a global alternative asset manager who possess $600b AUM as they seek to hire a Controller to join their Private Credit finance team, supporting their rapidly growing CLO business.

The role, based in Manhattan, will see this individual bear day-to-day responsibility for the finance and accounting work streams across the firm’s CLO platform, sitting within a private credit business with a complex, fast-growing fund structure spanning fund of funds, secondary, co-investment and direct investment strategies.

Our client is ideally seeking a CPA qualified professional with 8-12 years of accounting/finance experience, ideally with exposure to credit-related products and fund accounting within an alternative asset manager; our client is offering a competitive compensation package, strong hybrid working, excellent benefits, a clear route for progression and much more!

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the finance team responsible for accounting and financial reporting oversight for the firm’s CLO business.
  • Own the financial reporting process, including monthly performance estimates, close packages/NAV, allocations, waterfalls and fund returns.
  • Oversee the Fund Administrator responsible for investor reporting, including quarterly investor statements, annual audits, due diligence requests, capital calls and distributions.
  • Assist in cash management forecasts and budgets, alongside debt facility oversight, to establish capital available for investment.
  • Oversee compliance of fund credit facilities, accurately interpreting agreements while maintaining thorough knowledge of the underlying asset portfolio.
  • Perform data analysis on large asset portfolios, including data reconciliation and calculation of portfolio compliance tests such as portfolio quality and concentration ratios.
  • Review performance fee calculations and respond to investor queries around fund performance, NAVs, taxes and other areas.
  • Support audit and tax professionals during year-end audit and tax reporting, and assist with SEC or other regulatory compliance as required.

Requirements:

  • 8-12 years of accounting/finance experience; CPA required.
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting and financial reporting.
  • Experience with credit-related products (specifically CLOs), including position reconciliations, is a plus.
  • Experience designing and implementing new policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
