A growing US life insurance platform is looking to add a Senior Accountant to its insurance accounting team. This is a fully remote opportunity reporting directly into an Accounting & Reporting Manager.
The role offers strong exposure to US GAAP, STAT, life insurance accounting and financial reporting, with the opportunity to get involved in new accounting standards, reinsurance transactions and more complex technical accounting matters.
The Role
- Prepare US GAAP and statutory financial statements across multiple life/health insurance entities.
- Own journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and core close activities.
- Research and document accounting treatment for new and complex insurance transactions.
- Monitor developments across US GAAP, STAT and insurance regulatory guidance.
- Support implementation of standards including LDTI, ASC 944 and CECL.
- Assist with statutory reporting / Blue Book preparation and review.
- Work closely with external auditors through year-end audits and statutory examinations.
- Help develop and enhance accounting policies, controls and reporting processes.
- Get involved in ad hoc projects and broader finance initiatives as the business continues to grow.
What We’re Looking For
- 4+ years’ accounting experience within the US insurance industry.
- P&C or Life insurance accounting experience required.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and STAT.
- Exposure to LDTI and/or ASC 825 is a plus.
- Experience with statutory financial statements / Blue Books highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable working across ERP/EPM platforms; experience with NetSuite, OneStream or Sage is a plus, but not essential.
- Someone ambitious who wants more than a traditional month-end accounting role.
