Senior Accountant | P&C Insurance
Chicago area | Remote
$90,000 – $100,000 base + annual bonus
Build on your insurance accounting experience with broader responsibility across finance.
I’m partnering with a P&C insurance business seeking a Senior Accountant to help develop its accounting, reporting and financial planning capabilities.
Working directly with senior finance leadership, you’ll help build processes, improve reporting and develop the analysis behind business decisions. The opportunity offers meaningful exposure across accounting and FP&A, with room for your responsibilities to grow.
What you’ll take ownership of
-
Financial reporting and control: Support month-end close, U.S. GAAP reporting, reconciliations and the development of accounting policies and controls.
-
Insurance reporting: Contribute to statutory accounting and quarterly NAIC filings.
-
Planning and analysis: Build and maintain budgets, forecasts and models covering earnings, expenses and cash flow.
-
Management reporting: Prepare clear analysis and commentary explaining business performance to senior leadership.
-
Business partnering: Work with colleagues across finance and underwriting to understand the drivers behind the numbers.
-
Process improvement: Help design workflows, strengthen reporting and identify opportunities to automate manual work.
You’ll need to be comfortable working through the detail yourself, asking questions and helping establish processes where further structure is needed.
The background we’re looking for
This could suit an accountant already working within P&C insurance, or an external auditor with substantial P&C insurance client experience looking to move into industry.
You’ll bring:
-
Direct P&C insurance accounting or external insurance audit experience.
-
A CPA or equivalent accounting qualification.
-
Several years of relevant experience and strong accounting fundamentals.
-
Advanced Excel skills, with confidence analyzing financial information and working with models.
-
Evidence of taking ownership, resolving issues and improving processes.
-
The curiosity and judgement to work beyond a single accounting speciality.
Experience with statutory reporting, NAIC filings, reinsurance or budgeting and forecasting would strengthen your application. You don’t need prior experience across every responsibility, but you should understand how an insurance business operates and want to develop a broader finance skill set.
Why consider the move?
You’ll work closely with senior finance leadership and see how your work influences the business. There is scope to help shape how finance operates, develop your commercial understanding and take on greater responsibility as the team’s needs evolve.
For an insurance auditor, it offers the opportunity to move into ownership of the reporting and processes you’ve been reviewing. For an industry accountant, it offers a broader remit spanning reporting, planning and business performance.
Location and compensation
Remote initially, with candidates required to be within commuting distance of Chicago for periodic meetings. Working arrangements may evolve over time.
Approximately $100,000 base salary, annual bonus, healthcare benefits and a 401(k) match.
