The Company

Oliver James is currently partnering with a leading global Property & Casualty insurance organization with operations spanning North America, Europe, and Asia. As the business continues to invest in strategic growth initiatives, the organization is seeking a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to serve as a key finance leader supporting executive decision-making across the business.

This position offers significant exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence financial strategy within a complex, international environment.

Summary

The Director of FP&A will lead financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis activities for the U.S. business while partnering closely with executive leadership, business unit leaders, underwriting teams, and corporate finance stakeholders. The role will be responsible for translating financial results into actionable business insights and helping drive strategic initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range planning processes across multiple business units.
  • Deliver financial analysis and performance reporting to executive leadership, including variance analysis and key business drivers.
  • Partner with underwriting, claims, operations, and corporate functions to evaluate profitability, expense management, and growth initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain financial models supporting strategic planning, capital allocation, and business initiatives.
  • Analyze underwriting results, combined ratios, loss trends, and expense performance to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Prepare board, executive committee, and senior management presentations.
  • Support strategic initiatives including new product launches, business expansion opportunities, and operational improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with accounting and actuarial teams to ensure consistency between financial forecasts and reported results.
  • Drive enhancements to FP&A processes, reporting capabilities, and financial systems.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop FP&A team members while fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Serve as a key finance business partner to senior leadership across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • MBA, CPA, CFA, or other advanced designation preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with significant experience within a P&C insurance organization.
  • Prior experience in FP&A, strategic finance, commercial finance, or corporate finance leadership roles.
  • Experience supporting executive leadership and presenting financial results to senior management.
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, financial planning tools, and data visualization platforms.
  • Experience with insurance reporting systems and enterprise planning tools is preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams.
